In a bid to protect the civilians from shelling during the unprovoked ceasefire violations by Pakistan Army, the Jammu and Kashmir (J&K) administration has begun the construction of underground community bunkers at several villages along the Line of Control (LoC), reports Asian News International (ANI).
The construction of several such bunkers has been started in Uri in the Baramulla district. These bunkers are being built keeping in mind that they should be able to provide shelter to people for several days. Each of these bunkers would comprise of two rooms and a washroom.
It should be noted that this marks the first instance when the construction of bunkers has been taken up in Uri which lies on the frontline border area and has witnessed Pakistani Army's firing and shelling over the years.
Thanking the Government for the development, Sarpanch of Ward Five Manzoor Ahmad said, "This is a great start but we need more such bunkers to be made at the houses of people in this area."
