Doctors of All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) in Patna withdrew their day-old agitation after hospital authorities yesterday (15 October) filed FIRs against left-wing student activist Kanhaiya Kumar and his supporters, Patna Daily has reported.

Kanhaiya Kumar and his goons attacked doctors and ransacked the campus on Sunday (14 October). Kumar, the former President of the Jawaharlal Nehru University student union, came visiting one Sushil Kumar, an All India Students Federation (AISF) leader, who was undergoing treatment at the hospital.

Alleging that Sushil Kumar was deprived of proper treatment, Kumar and his cohorts created ruckus inside the hospital. When a duty doctor intervened and requested them to maintain etiquette or to leave the room, Kumar's cronies beat up the doctor and snatched his cell phone.

The report quoted a security guard who was at the receiving end of the intimidating behaviour by Kumar and his followers as saying “Kanhaiya and his men acted like thugs with zero regard for other patients or the safety of the hospital staff.”

Following the incident, doctors went on a strike demanding immediate arrest of Kanhaiya Kumar and his followers.

The strike was however called off after the hospital lodged FIRs against Kumar and close to 100 of his supporters. Bihar Health Minister Mangal Pandey issued a stern warning to the former student leader saying he cannot reduce a premier hospital in Bihar as a playground for agitation politics.

"We are not going to tolerate such criminal behaviour in Bihar. This is not JNU. Such shameful action will land him in jail for a long time," Pandey added.

Kumar is likely to be fielded as the candidate of the Mahagathbandhan from Bihar’s Begusarai Lok Sabha constituency in the upcoming Lok Sabha election in 2019. He will enter the electoral fray as a Communist Party of India candidate.

Alluding to Kumar’s political ambitions, Health Minister accused him of fomenting trouble in Bihar ahead of next year's Lok Sabha polls saying it was typical of the extremists like the former JNU student leader to create trouble to gain notoriety.

"Some crackpot leaders are trying to defame the Nitish government. The only suitable place for them is jail where they can think about their criminal behaviour," Pandey said.

Kanhaiya Kumar has a long history of boorish behaviour. He faced disciplinary action from his university for urinating inside the JNU campus despite strong objection from a lady scholar.
