Karnataka MPs, MLAs Misuse Of Cars In Delhi Catches State Government Eye, GPS Installed To Keep A Check

Upon receiving several complaints against Member of Parliaments (MPs) and Member of Legislative Assemblies (MLAs) from Karnataka taking concessional transport facilities provided to them for granted, the Karnataka government is cracking down on the misuse and has installed GPS in all the government-owned vehicles, Deccan Herald has reported.

State officials and ministers are granted free transport facilities for travel within Delhi. For MLAs, the cost for state transport is set at Rs 10 per km.

According to the complaints received, many MPs and MLAs have been using the cars for not only personal work but also for going on family outings. Despite owning cars, several MPs have been reportedly demanding that free of cost transport be given to them, the report quoted a Chief Minister Office (CMO) official as saying.

Although transport facility is provided by Parliament to the MPs, many of them prefer the state vehicles. The misuse, when reported, upset Chief Minister HD Kumaraswamy who subsequently gave the order.

The order follows closely at the heels of a new MP from Karnataka reportedly creating a ruckus when he was denied four cars for his family, with him going on to threaten officials over the issue.
