The government of Karnataka has proposed a 350 foot statue of Mother Cauvery to be built in Mandya’s Krishnaraja Sagar (KRS) dam, Deccan Herald has reported. Visitors who come to the KRS dam can view the statue from a viewer’s gallery. The statue is set to be built on a base that is 125 feet tall.
A few months ago, the state government had announced plans of converting the place into a ‘Disneyland-like’ destination. The initiative will be a joint effort of the Department of Tourism and Water Resources. The proposal has received a go-ahead from Water Resources Minister D K Shivakumar and Tourism Minister Sa Ra Mahesh.
Earlier this year during the budget, the Chief Minister had earmarked a fund of Rs 5 crore for the development of the project. Minister Sa Ra Mahesh has announced that the statue will be built on a Build-Own-Operate-Transfer (BOOT) model and the tenders are expected to be out in the next couple of months.
“The highlight of the entire project will be the amusement park. The project will also include various theme parks like Penguin Park and Aromatherapy Park. There will be a street with replicas of historical monuments like Hampi, Belur and Halebid. There will also be hotels and food courts,” the tourism minister told Deccan Herald.
The project that might also have a wax museum is estimated to cost somewhere between Rs 1,500 to Rs 2,000 crore.
