Kashmir: Indian Jawan Who Came Home To Perform His Sons’s Last Rites Gunned Down By Terrorists 

Terrorists shot dead a Territorial Army soldier in Kulgam district in Jammu and Kashmir. Greater Kashmir reported that the militants posing "as journalists" and shot dead Lance Naik Mukhtar Ahmad Malik, a former "Ikhwan militia commander-turned soldier", who had come to Shurat village to mourn his son's death. Malik's teenage son, reported Greater Kashmir, was killed in an accident three days ago.

The report says that Malik was a "commander of the Ikhwan counterinsurgency militia during the mid nineties. Like many Ikhwanis, he was inducted into the Territorial Army in 2002." The report adds that Malik was at home when four militants barged into his home. "They were directed to a room upstairs where Mukhtar was receiving visitors. The militants, a source said, were carrying weapons under pherans." He was shot dead at his home.

The Times of India report mentions that the terrorists asked him questions on army deployment. According to the report, people present at the scene at Malik’s house quoted him as saying, "Shoot me if you want to, but don't ask me questions."

The Kashmir Reader reported that Malik was shot "multiple times". The family was into their "third day of mourning" after his teenage son’s death when the terrorists entered the home, posing as journalists and shot him dead. He was taken to a Kulgam hospital where doctors declared him “dead on arrival”.

The report adds, "at the funeral, Malik’s two sons and their relatives abused and tried to manhandle media persons who had reached the spot to carry out their professional duties." He belonged to 162 battalion of Territorial Army.
