Actor and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Rajya Sabha MP Suresh Gopi has welcomed the move to allow non-Hindu believers into temples in Kerala, The News Minute has reported.

“Non-Hindus, who are believers, should be allowed to enter temples. This is welcoming and positive thought. We will have to execute this without hurting anyone’s religious sentiments”, the website quoted him as saying.

This development comes soon after Kozhikode Zamorin said that non-Hindus should be allowed to enter Guruvayur temple, adding that singers like Yesudas who follow Hinduism should not be bared entry in Guruvayur temple.

“In my opinion anybody who believes in Hinduism should be allowed to visit temples, but they should be ready to follow the rules and regulations put forward by the temple authorities”, he was quoted as saying.

“I don’t have a second thought when it comes to Yesudas. He believes in Hinduism and his lifestyle speaks of it. Singers like him should not be kept away from Guruvayur”, the Zamorin added.

Earlier this week, Guruvayur Thanthi Dinesan Namboothiripad had called for an open debate on this issue. "There should be an open discussion among all the stakeholders regarding the topic. From that discussion, we need to arrive at how we will allow entry to non-Hindus, what is to be done, and other related issues. Only the government can take such a decision, they should do so,” he had said.

Following his statement, other members of the Thanthri family had said in a press statement that they were not of the same view.
