Kerala Intelligence Says There’s Too Much Politicisation Happening In the Police Force

BySwarajya Staff

A classified report compiled by the Kerala police's intel department has said that there has been too much politicisation of the police force in the state. Such politicisation has begun hampering ‘effective and neutral policing’ in Kerala, according to a report in The New Indian Express.

The report which was submitted to the state police head Loknath Behera, IPS, pointed out instances where meetings of the police association were held in contravention of service services. A number of meetings also saw sloganeering and commemoration of martyrs, both carried out with plenty of political overtones. These instances seem to have been reported from Eranakulam Rural, Kozhikode and Pathanamthitta districts.

The report has suggested that the police force must function without being tainted by activities that have political over tones.

Kerala continues to see a high rate of political violence involving political parties bumping off activists from opposing parties. The state Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) had earlier carried out a yatra across the state to highlight instances of murderous attacks on its cadre. The rally also had Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath and BJP President Amit Shah in attendance.
