Kerala’s Pilgrimage Tourism Gets A Boost, Rs 91.72 Crore Package Approved By Centre To Benefit 147 Religious Centres

In an impetus to boost pilgrimage tourism the Central Government has approved a grant of Rs 91.72 crore for Kerala to improve tourist amenities in 147 pilgrimage centres across different faiths, reports Economic Times. This plan is part of developing the tourism infrastructure in the state.

The State Minister for tourism and temple has said that pilgrimage tourism is a priority area and detailed project report for the same would be submitted to the centre soon.

Reports suggest that the government plans to extend facilities to pilgrims such as rest rooms, hall for serving food, lavatories and food stalls. The project is reported to be implemented as part of the pilgrim tourism third circuit development plan, under which basic infrastructures would be provided at major Hindu, Muslim and Christian pilgrim centres in all the 14 districts in the state.

The pilgrim centres in the project include:

• Ananthapadmanabhaswamy Temple, Kasargod
• Thirunavaya Nava Mukunda Temple, Malappuram
• Valiyapalli Juma Masjid, Ponnani
• Sri Visalakshi Sametha Viswanathaswamy temple, Kalpathy
• Thali Siva Temple, Pattambi
• Paramekkavu and Thiruvambadi temples in Thrissur
• Ayyappa Seva Sangham, Erumeli
• Nainar Church, Kanjirappally
• St. Mary’s Church, Chambakkulam
• Marthoma Church, Thiruvalla
• Parabrahma Temple, Oachira
