Khalistani Supporters Protest Outside Indian Embassy In Washington DC In Support Of Farmers In New Delhi

BySwarajya Staff

Members from pro-Khalistan separatist groups gathered along with others outside the Indian Embassy in Washington DC to support the cause of agitating farmers in New Delhi, ANI reports.

Sikh DMV Youth and Sangat organized these protests that saw an assembly of around two dozen individuals. The gathered people held ‘Khalistan’ flags and chanted anti-India slogans and stated that the newly passed farm bills violated India’s human rights and democracy.

“Every year we mark 26 January as Black Day, but this year we are standing in solidarity with the farmers in India, who are not just Sikhs but belong to all faiths from across the country,” Narender Singh, one of the protestors, was quoted as saying in the report. Apparently, this group has regularly expressed their desire for a separate Khalistan state and used to disrupt the Indian embassy’s Republic Day functions annually.

However, the 26 January celebrations at the consulate were curtailed due to the ongoing pandemic yet the Khalistani supporters flocked outside to propagate their separatist motives.

Similar agitations by the Sikh diaspora have been witnessed in Canadian and American cities in the last couple of months. Meanwhile, Attorney General K K Venugopal had apprised the Supreme Court a fortnight ago that pro-Khalistan elements had infiltrated the farmers’ protests.
