Top Lashkar-e-Toiba (LeT) commander Ayub Lelhari was on Wednesday gunned down by the security forces in an encounter that broke out between Army and terrorists in Jammu and Kashmir's Pulwama district, ANI has reported.
Acting on information regarding the movement of Lelhari, local police along with Army and the Central Reserve Police Force planned counter-terror operations at Banderpora, Drubgam and Chandgam areas of the district.
One security personnel is also said to have received injuries in the gun battle.
"He (Ayub Lelhari) was one of the most wanted terrorists. It's a great success for the forces," Director General of Police Shesh Paul Vaid told ANI.
Earlier this month, Lelhari was trapped during an encounter in a village of Pulwama district along with another Pakistani LeT terrorist active in the Kashmir Valley. He, however, had managed to escape from the site.
