The voting for the fourth phase of the 2019 Lok Sabha elections is underway. As many as 72 constituencies across 9 states are going into the polls in this phase of the parliamentary elections on Monday (29 April), according to an official statement.
In this phase of the elections, an estimated 12.82 crore electorate will be eligible to exercise their franchise in 13 seats each in Rajasthan and Uttar Pradesh, five in Bihar, eight in West Bengal, three in Jharkhand, six in Madhya Pradesh, 17 in Maharashtra and six in Odisha.
Anantnag Parliamentary Constituency (PC) in Jammu & Kashmir is going to polls divided in Phase III, Phase IV & Phase V of General Elections 2019, the only such PC in the country. The Four Districts to be covered in the Anantnag seat are Anantnag, Kulgam, Shopian and Pulwama.
Over 1.4 lakh polling booths have been put in place by the Election Commission for the smooth conduct of polls.
This phase of the LS elections is also witnessing polling in eight seats of West Bengal, where the BJP and Trinamool Congress are the prime contenders.
BJP's candidate from Bengal's Krishnanagar constituency has claimed that Trinamool goons have captured polling booths.
Violence has erupted in Jemua area in Asansol Parliamentary constituency of West Bengal. BJP supporters were reportedly shouting slogans when a few people attacked them with bamboo sticks. Police resorted to lathicharge to bring situation under control. Large number of police force has been rushed to the spot, reports India Today.
