Thanks to its heavy involvement in the construction of Hyderabad Metro, L&T Metro Rail (Hyderabad) Limited has bagged the world record for constructing the most number of metro pillars numbering 2,599, Rail Analysis has reported.
The first metro pillar for the project was erected way back in 2012 when the construction of Hyderabad metro began. Since then L&T has erected 2,598 pillars more on the 66 km stretch. This has also meant that construction on all routes stands completed except for a 6 km stretch in Hyderabad Old City.
Constructing these pillars was not easy. It involved taking permission from Defence Ministry, Indian Railways, NHAI and other government organisations. L&T also had to fight and win over 370 court cases to remove objections to the construction.
In total 2,100 trees were relocated and 3,000 had to be cut down. As a compensation, the company planted, 6 lakh saplings, widened roads, culverts and drains to ensure smooth flow of traffic during construction.
