Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis and Union Civil Aviation Minister Suresh Prabhu on Tuesday (5 March) inaugurated Maharashtra’s fourteenth airport at Chipi in Sindhudurg district, reports Indian Express.

The airport, which has been built at a cost of Rs 520 crore, will have a 2,500-metre long runway and a capacity to handle 200 departing and 200 arriving passengers during peak hours.

“The airport will serve the purpose of affordable connectivity to the Konkan region. Travellers had to go to Goa or Pune to come to Sindhudurg. Now, they will be able to go there directly,” said Deepak Kesarkar, Minister of State for Home (Rural) and Sindhudurg’s guardian minister.

“All permissions for the airport have been received and flight operations can start in the next 10-15 days. It will boost tourism in the district,” Kesarkar added.

New Airport At Arunachal Pradesh Too

On 11 February, PM Modi laid the foundation for the construction of a greenfield airport at Hollongi and inaugurated another retrofitted airport in Tezu in Arunachal Pradesh to facilitate better air connectivity between the state and the mainland.
