On-demand video streaming services, Netflix and Amazon Prime are launching many original series in India. While Netflix has announced at least nine original series, rival Amazon Prime has green-lighted six new India originals.
According to Livemint, Netflix has announced that nine original series - Delhi Crime, Bard of Blood, Baahubali: Before The Beginning, Leila, Crocodile, Typewriter, Midnight’s Children, Mighty Little Bheem and Mumbai Indians would be launched in 2019.
Apart from these nine original series, the video streaming platform is also planning eight more Netflix original movies, after releasing five original films in 2019. The move comes as rival Hotstar is in plans to release various originals after collaborating with 15 top industry producers.
Amazon Prime video is also doubling its original content offerings in 2019 challenging other over the top (OTT) services in the market.
Television Post reported that the six green-lighted Original series are- Bandish Bandits, The Last Hour, three untitled series across thriller, drama and reality genres. Further, they would be launching Comicstaan Tamil, a regional spinoff Prime Original Series ‘Comicstaan’ and also renewed ‘Mirzapur’ for the second season.
“We’re delighted to announce the commissioning of more than twenty new and returning series, to be produced in seven countries across three continents around the world. We know that customers watching Prime Video everywhere want to see authentic stories, set in their own countries, and to invest in characters that can reflect their own experiences and diversity,” Amazon Studios Head Jennifer Salke said.
