A heavy contingent of police, army and paramilitary forces was rushed to a government building in Pampore in south Kashmir, where at least three suspected militants are holed up since early morning today (10 October).
They cordoned off the building, the hostel of the Entrepreneurship Development Institute (EDI), which was destroyed in a terrorist attack in February.
After gunshots were heard from inside the complex, security forces rushed towards the area to flush out the militants. According to reports, the gun battle is still continuing between militants and security forces. Explosions are being heard regularly from within and around the building.
The suspected militants have been trying to infiltrate into Srinagar city from last many days, intelligence officials said, and added that at around 6am, one EDI employee saw smoke rising from a building in the campus. Although, the fire has stopped but combing operations have been intensified.
Following India's surgical strikes across the Line of Control two weeks ago, Intelligence agencies in Kashmir had warned of a major terror strike either on army installations in Srinagar or convoys moving towards Jammu.
