Prime Minister Narendra Modi took to twitter on Saturday (16 May) to thank US President Donald Trump for his offer to donate hundreds of ventilators to India to help fight the coronavirus pandemic.

PM Modi tweeted, “Thank you @POTUS @realDonaldTrump. This pandemic is being fought collectively by all of us. In such times, it’s always important for nations to work together and do as much as possible to make our world healthier and free from COVID-19.”

“More power to Ind-US friendship!” he added.

It should be noted that earlier President Trump announced that the United States will donate 200 ventilators to India amid COVID pandemic outbreak.

Taking to twitter, Trump said, "I am proud to announce that the United States will donate ventilators to our friends in India. We stand with India and @narendramodi during this pandemic. We're also cooperating on vaccine development. Together we will beat the invisible enemy!"

As per one Hindustan Times report, the estimated cost of each these 200 ventilators will be around Rs 9.6 lakh at current exchange rates without accounting for the transportation costs. In all, the ventilators will cost about $ 2.6 million (or Rs 19.2 crore) plus freight charges.

Earlier in the day while launching 'Operation Warp Speed' to ready a vaccine against Covid-19 by the end of the year, he said, the US was working with India on the project.

He also acknowledged the work of Indian-Americans on vaccine development projects.

There is a "tremendous Indian population in the United States, many of the people you are talking about are working on the vaccine too. Great scientists and researchers," he said.
