In a major development, over two dozen leaders of the Mayawati-led Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) have jumped over to Indian National Congress (INC) in Madhya Pradesh which is set to witness bypoll elections in the State soon, reports news agency ANI.
The leaders joined the Congress party and received its membership officially at the Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC)'s office in the presence of senior Congress leaders including former ministers Sajjan Singh Verma, P C Sharma and former speaker of the Assembly N P Prajapati.
The bypolls are expected to be held in September. They were necessitated as several seats of the Madhya Pradesh Assembly fell vacant after a streak of Congress party's sitting MLAs had tendered their resignations to the Governor in March, which also brought down Nath's Government.
