MTNL Introduces FTTH Internet Service; Doubles High Speed Data Limit On All Broadband Plans

BySwarajya Staff

Mahanagar Telephone Nigam Limited (MTNL) revised its broadband plans and doubled the fair use policy (FUP), which is the limit until which consumers can enjoy high speed internet speed. After the FUP is breached the internet speed is slashed.

The revisions by state-run telecom company are currently applicable only in Mumbai and for a limited period ill 31 May 2019, in a report by Telecom Talk.

The changes are, for the 6 Mbps plan the 80 GB data FUP is now 160 GB and on the similar lines for the 8 Mbps, 10 Mbps, 12 Mbps, 50 Mbps and 100 Mbps, the telecom operator doubled the FUP which used to be 70 GB, 65 GB, 55 GB, 45 GB and 35 GB data respectively,

The doubling of FUP also extends to plans starting from Rs 1,000 and above with speeds of 14 Mbps and 16 Mbps and higher. For plans above Rs 3,999 which only come in FTTH options and speeds upwards of 50 Mbps the data is revised to 2,300 GB data.

BSNL and MTNL have been undergoing a series of change in policy and revisions have been made across its subscriber base and services offered. The two telcos are under financial stress for posting consecutive losses and competition from private players like Reliance Jio.

The telecom operator is also offering FTTH service to its customers in Mumbai thus extending 100 Mbps connection to its subscribers too. This comes as a welcome move to stay valid and take the price war fight to the private players.
