Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) will soon ask the Mumbai International Airport Limited (MIAL) to contribute Rs 1,000 to Rs 1,200 crore for the metro rail corridor catering to the airport, Indian Express has reported.
The metro connecting the airport will be an extension of Metro Line 7 (Dahisar East to Andheri East). On the east the extension of the metro will be till Mira-Bhyander. The total extension of the metro will cost Rs 6670 crore.
Sources in the MMRDA told Indian Express that MIAL had earlier rejected the proposal to share expenses for the metro. However, a recent meeting between the MIAL and Metropolitan Commissioner has succeeded in breaking the impasse.
The MMRDA has calculated the sum that would have to be paid by MIAL after the positive outcome of the meeting. Construction works for both the extensions is likely to begin by January 2019. Mumbai’s airport authority has already contributed Rs 777 crore for the metro project, with three stations on the Metro Line 3 reportedly connecting the airport to the city.
