Mumbai Metro Route 4A Connecting Kasarvadavali–Gaikmukh Approved; To Reduce South Mumbai–Thane Commute Time

The Maharashtra government on Thursday (27 December) approved Mumbai Metro’s Route 4A from Kasarvadavali to Gaikmukh aimed at cutting travel time between South Mumbai and Thane, Press Trust of India has reported.

Dubbed as a 2.7 km extension, it will connect the entire stretch of Thane’s Ghodbunder Road with metro. This would be part of a 32 km long corridor encompassing Wadala, Ghatkopar, Mulund, Thane and Kasarvadavali.

This project is expected to cost around Rs 949 crore and would be ready by March 2022. It may benefit as many as 8.7 lakh commuters.

Besides approving the project, the Maharashtra government also gave the green signal to Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) for raising funds from domestic, international finances for its execution.

Currently work is ongoing on several Mumbai metro corridors namely:

1. Metro 2A - Dahisar to DN Nagar
2. Metro 2B - DN Nagar to Mankhurd
3. Metro 3 - Colaba, Bandra and Seepz
4. Metro 4 - Wadala to Kasarvadavali which is an elevated corridor
5. Metro 6 - Swami Samarthnagar, Jogeshwari and Vikhroli
6. Metro 7 - Andheri (East) to Dahisar

Earlier this month, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has laid the foundation stone for Metro 5 route connecting Thane-Bhiwandi-Kalyan and Metro 9 route joining Dahisar to Mira Bhayander.
