My Locality Holier Than Thou: ESPN NBA Reporter Faces Flak For Hypocritical Tweet About George Floyd Protest

With riots continuing in large parts of the United States following the death of George Floyd, former ESPN NBA reporter Chris Martin Palmer faced the flak on social media for his hypocritical tweets.

Earlier on Thursday night (28 May), sharing a photo of a burning building, Palmer tweeted, "Burn that s— down. Burn it all down."

However, on Sunday night (31 May), Palmer seems to have a change of heart when the rioters reportedly attacked a gated community near his residence.

He tweeted, “They just attacked our sister community down the street. It’s a gated community and they tried to climb the gates. They had to beat them back. Then destroyed a Starbucks and are now in front of my building. Get these animals TF out of my neighborhood. Go back to where you live.”

Netizens pointed towards the epitome of irony and hypocrisy of Palmer where he incites looters to burn things down just as long as they stay away from his gated community.

It should be noted that according to several news reports, the photo of the burning building was apparently an affordable housing development under construction, slated to open later this year.

He later tweeted, “Welp. They're gone. Security called the cops and they swarmed. Some scattered, others were arrested. (You hate to see it.) Tense moments. There's graffiti everywhere. We live in a beautiful, safe community and have pride. These people had no pride and weren't protesters.”

One user said, “ Hi @ChrisPalmerNBA , you encouraged other neighborhoods to be burnt down. Was that ok because you think those places were not beautiful or safe? Do you think no one had pride in those communities? Can you please show your work here? ”

One user remarked, “”I think he forgot what side of the class war he was on. Lots of wealthy celebrities chanting eat the rich un-ironically these days. went from cheering burning buildings to cheering cops real fast.”

Another tweeted, “Yup. He thinks living in a pricier neighborhood makes him a better person. He is just proof that money CAN'T buy class. And that racists come in all colors.”
