NASSCOM Refutes Trump’s Claims, Says TCS, Infosys Made Up Only 8.8 Per Cent Of Total H-1B Visas
Refuting claims made by United States President Donald Trump that companies like Infosys, Tata and Cognizant have gamed the H-1B visa lottery system by submitting extra applications, the National Association of Software and Services Companies (NASSCOM) has said Indian Information Technology (IT) companies accounted “cumulatively” for less than 20 per cent of the total H-1B visas. The United States is the largest market for the $110 billion Indian IT industry, as per an Economic Times report.
Nasscom would like to clarify on the statements made by the White House on Indian companies getting the lion’s share of H-1B visas and highlight that in 2014-15, only six of the top 20 H-1B recipients were Indian companies.NASSCOM
NASSCOM said Tata Consultancy Services and Infosys were recipients of 7,504 of the approved H-1B visas, which made up 8.8 per cent of the total 85,000 visas issued in 2014-15.
The Trump administration wants to replace the existing lottery system with a merit-based system. Minor changes in visa policies could result in a massive increase in cost of operations as well as hinder labour movement.
