Former Pakistan prime minister Nawaz Shariff today tacitly admitted in an interview that Pakistan had a role to play in the 26 November 2008 attacks in Mumbai, reports The Times of India. Shariff was talking to Pakistani newspaper Dawn where he said that terrorist organisations were thriving in the country and that non-state actors were behind the attacks in India’s financial capital.

Militant organisations are active. Call them non-state actors, should we allow them to cross the border and kill 150 people in Mumbai?

The former prime minister was questioning the slow progress of the trial into the attacks at an anti-terrorism court in Rawalpindi.

Attacking the military and judiciary, Shariff said that a country couldn’t be run with two or three parallel governments and only the constitutional government could operate.

Shariff was ousted from public office last year when the Supreme Court of Pakistan barred him for life for his alleged involvement in the Panama Papers case. Earlier this year, the court also disqualified him as the head of the ruling Pakistan Muslim League - Nawaz (PML-N).
