NCSC Acts On Complaint Against Insult To Saint Valmiki In Arshad Warsi’s Movie, Sends Notice To Mumbai Police

The National Commission for Scheduled Castes (NCSC) has sent a notice to the Mumbai Police Commissioner to inquire into the matter of Bollywood actor Arshad Warsi allegedly insulting Maharishi Valmiki in a movie scene.

The notice states that the Mumbai police have to submit details of action taken under SC/ST Act 1989 as amended latest and rules under it. The notice states that in case the police fail to produce the report within the stipulated time period of 15 days, the commission will take action under its powers of a civil court.

The notice comes after a complaint was filed by a Hindu rights organisation named Agniveer with NCSC. The complaint was written by activist Satish Vaid, who heads the organisation’s SC/ST cell, after a video of the upcoming film ‘The Legend of Michael Mishra’ was widely circulated on social media a few days ago.

Produced by Eyecandy Flims, the film allegedly has a scene where Arshad Warsi's character is making a comment regarding Maharishi Valimiki, which Vaid says is offensive to the sentiments of the Valmiki Samaj.

In the official trailer of the movie, Warsi can be heard saying, “Humne decide kar liya hai ki hum daaku Valmiki se Sant Valmiki ban jayenge” (I have decided to become saint Valmiki from the robber Valmiki).
