As part of the Surat - Chennai expressway corridor, the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has invited bids to construct a six-lane access-controlled greenfield highway section from Julekal village to Kurnool town in Telangana.

Surat-Chennai Expressway was already declared. This greenfield expressway will reduce the distance between many cities and mainly between Surat and Chennai from about 1,600 km to 1,270 Km.

ConstructionWeek reports that the route length in Telangana for which NHAI has invited bids is 38.2 km, and the estimated value of the project is Rs 869 crore.

Recently, the Akkalkot - Kurnool Green Field Alignment with a length of 280 Km was declared as National Highway.

“Surat - Chennai expressway will ease traffic between the two cities and develop New Economic Corridor in hinterlands and towns including Nashik, Ahmednagar, Solapur, Akkalkot and Kurnool among others. This route will also decongest traffic passing through Mumbai and Pune,” Union Minister Nitin Gadkari said in a tweet.

“The new expressway will also connect Delhi-Mumbai Expressway at Surat, providing better connectivity for the economic corridor being developed between Delhi and Mumbai,” he added.
