‘No Doubt About Mid-term Polls’: Deve Gowda Says Can’t Say How Long Cong-JD(S) Government Will Survive In Karnataka

Furthering speculations on the longevity of the Congress-JD(S) coalition government in Karnataka, JD(S) supremo and former prime minister H D Deve Gowda said that there will be mid-term polls in the state, reports Times of India.

“There is no doubt that there will be mid-term polls. They said they will support us for five years. But look at their behaviour now. Our people are smart.”

“I don’t know how long this government will survive. It depends on Congress’ decision,” said Gowda, expressing doubts on the survival of the ruling combine led by his son H.D. Kumaraswamy.

“Kumaraswamy has done everything possible to keep this coalition going. We have sacrificed one cabinet berth for the Congress,” added Gowda.

Reacting on the same, Kumaraswamy said that his father’s statement was misinterpreted and this government would complete its tenure.

Gowda’s statement came after reports emerged that Congress party leader Siddaramaiah told the AICC president Rahul Gandhi to severe ties with the JD(S) as the coalition was denting the prospects of the grand old party, in the wake of the drubbing in the recent general elections where the secular combine managed to win only two out of the 28 Lok Sabha seats in the state.
