No Parking: Business Takes A Toll In Bengaluru’s Church Street As BBMP, Traffic Police Indulge In Blame-Game 

Merchants and shop owners at Bengaluru’s Church Street have been complaining about the lack of parking due to a ban, which has been affecting business in the area. However, the traffic police and the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) are blaming each other over the issue.

Economic Times quoted the manager of Coconut Grove, an old establishment in Church Street, as saying, “There was no problem in our business for 28 years until the renovation began. After the renovation, the street is only able to accommodate parking for about 20 cars and 200 two-wheelers.”

Furthermore, Brigade Road, which lies adjacent to Church Street, has a metered parking system while Church Street doesn’t. Vehicles that are parked in the designated areas are being towed away by the cops, leaving commuters harassed. The local police station in-charge of the area at Cubbon Park blames it conveniently on the BBMP.

At a cost of Rs 9 crore, the TenderSURE project overhauled the road and it took a couple of years to reach completion. Church Street had been inaugurated right before the Assembly elections in Karnataka. The locals have now decided to approach the city corporation regarding the issue.
