No Slacking Allowed: Yogi Government Suspends IPS Officer Over Service Rule Violations After Going AWOL

The Uttar Pradesh (UP) government has suspended 1992 batch Indian Police Service (IPS) officer, Jasvir Singh, for violation of service rules in connection with his remarks in an interview to a news outlet. He was reportedly talking about remaining absent from duty without sanction from an appropriate authority.

“The UP cadre officer was suspended after he failed to respond to the show-cause notice that was served on him for violation of service conduct rules and for being absent from duty without taking approval of the competent authority,” Principal Secretary (Home) Arvind Kumar said as reported by Times of India.

Earlier in 2002, Singh had initiated proceedings to invoke the National Security Act (NSA) against then Gorakhpur Member of Parliament (MP) Yogi Adityanath in a case of violation of prohibitory orders which resulted in the removal of his post shortly after that.

In 2003, during his tenure as Superintendent of Police (SP) of UP police’s food cell, he had accused the then Samajwadi Party minister Raghuraj Pratap Singh ‘Raja Bhaiya’ of corruption in a multi-crore food scam.
