Stand-up comedian and former member of the comedy troupe AIB, Utsav Chakraborty has been accused of sexual harassment by several women, including underage girls.
His actions were first brought to light by Mahima Kukreja on Thursday (4 October) who accused him of sending pics of his genitals and also harassing her to send sexually explicit pics. The issue grew into a storm where he is being accused by a lot of other women of sending pics of his genitalia and of predatory behaviour.
A general anger is also being directed to the comedy scene in general, accusing them of shielding him in the past. Comedian Abhishek Upmanyu said, "Everything is true. And also a lot of people knew and still worked with him” reports IndiaTV.
AIB issued a statement on their Twitter handle, distancing themselves from him,
Prominent stand-up comedians such as Varun Grover, Aditi Mittal, Kaneez Surka and Aashish Mathews have called out to him.
Comedian Aditi Mittal slammed Chakraborty's behaviour after going through the woman's thread and tweeted, "What's up with this Utsav? Your behaviour has been consistently misogynist for a while, and you keep pretending to wake like your boyfriends at AIB who keep you employed as well. Women don't feel safe around you. What are you doing about this?"
