Now Get Full Refund If You Miss Connecting Train: IRCTC Launches New PNR Linking Feature

BySwarajya Staff

A new feature was unveiled on 1 April by the Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC) on its website and app which allows train passengers to link their PNR numbers of two connecting journeys, reports Times of India.

The aim is to help passengers get refunds in case they can’t make it to their connecting train due to a delay by the first train. The new feature is similar to how the aviation industry operates, in which air travellers are allotted a seat on a different aircraft in case of a delay of the first flight results in one missing the connecting flight.

The feature can be used by entering the PNR of the first journey’s ticket while booking the ticket for the connecting journey. The online system will automatically make a decision on whether the passenger is eligible for making a booking for the connecting train, depending on the arrival time of the first train and the departure time of the second train.

However, the benefit provided to passengers the further the distance they travel, known as ‘telescopic’ benefit, will not be provided in case of an interconnected journey.
