On PM Modi’s Visit, Bahraini King Issues Royal Pardon For 250 Indian Prisoners 

As a gesture of goodwill during Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to the Gulf nation, Bahraini King Hamad Bin Isa Al Khalifa has issued a royal pardon for 250 Indian prisoners serving sentences in the country, reports PTI.

Modi thanked the king as well as the whole royal family for making the gesture of kindness.

Currently, 8,189 Indians are held in prisons abroad, with a sizeable proportion of this number in Gulf countries; 1,811 prisoners are serving sentences in Saudi Arabia while 1,392 are imprisoned in the United Arab Emirates (UAE).

“In a kind and humanitarian gesture, the Government of Bahrain has pardoned 250 Indians serving sentences in Bahrain,” the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) tweeted.

The prime minister’s visit to Bahrain, which is the smallest of all the Gulf monarchies, was the last leg of a three-country official tour which saw him also visiting France and the UAE.
