Amid the ongoing race among global companies and institutions for developing a vaccine for the Covid-19, the researchers at the University of Cambridge in the United Kingdom are working on a vaccine prototype that can defeat all kind of Coronaviruses, including the SARS-CoV-2 that causes the Covid-19, reports Economic Times.
According to the report, the Covid-19 causing SARS-CoV-2 is not the only coronavirus that infects humans. Seven types of coronaviruses have been known to infect and cause diseases in humans including Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome (SARS) and Middle East Respiratory Syndrome (MERS).
Scientists from the University of Cambridge are working to develop a vaccine that fights not just the current one but all coronaviruses in the future.
The researchers have developed the vaccine named 'DIOS-CoVax2' using the genetic sequencing obtained from Coronaviruses, which are mostly known to spread from bats to humans.
For developing the vaccine, the scientist used 3D computer modelling to tap any mutations and variations which can cause damage and infect the society in the future.
The vaccine project is being funded by the United Kingdom government which is providing a funding of around 1.9 million pound for the research.
