Orange In Himachal, Red In Punjab: Alerts Issued By IMD As Weather Conditions Worsen Due To Heavy Rain, Snow Fall

The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted that in Himachal Pradesh, beginning 8 January, isolated to scattered precipitation may occur. The higher altitude must be avoided, the IMD has advised the tourists and general public, Times of India reported.

On Thursday (3 January), the State Disaster Management Authority (SDMA) announced that it is prepared to deal with any situation. An official has said that the state and the district control rooms are in a position to deal with any eventuality, if need be.

Across several districts in the state, the heavy rains and snowfall is continuing. Public and private schools in Kullu, Kinnaur and Kangra remain to be closed due to the weather conditions. Rescue operations are currently ongoing in many states. Government of Punjab has issued a red alert as the heavy rain continues and has advised the district authorities to remain alert.

During past 24 hours, Keylong in Lahaul-Spiti recorded lowest minimum temperature of -12.0 degree Celcius, Kalpa in Kinnaur recorded -8.6 degree Celsius, Manali recorded - 3.6 degree Celcius and Shimla recorded minimum temperature of -0.7 degree Celsius, ANI reported.
