Over 150 Maharashtra Returnees Among 178 New Cases In Karnataka, State’s Covid-19 Tally Rises To 2,711

There is no respite from domestic returnees with respect to COVID-19 in Karnataka. As many as 92 per cent of the 178 cases in the past 19 hours were returnees, mostly from Maharashtra, raising the state’s tally to 2,711, an official said on Friday (29 May).

“New cases reported from Thursday 5 pm to Friday noon, 178,” said a health official.

Among the 164 domestic returnees, 156 or 95 per cent returned from Maharashtra, India’s largest COVID suffering state.

Recently, Karnataka saw a major spike in cases in Udupi, Yadgir, Bengaluru Urban, Kalaburagi and Raichur.

Raichur suffered 62 infections and Yadgir, 60, both constituting 69 per cent of the cases in the past 19 hours.

A 35-year-old man from Bengaluru is suffering from Influenza Like Illness (ILI).

A 68-year-old woman from Davangere is also suffering from the same condition.

One more patient, a 32-year-old man from Chikkaballapura, is also suffering from ILI.

A 68-year-old man from the same place is suffering from Severe Acute Respiratory Infection (SARI).

Meanwhile, 35 patients were discharged in the past 19 hours, 30 from Hassan, three from Uttara Kannada and one each from Chikkamagaluru and Mandya.

Among the cases, 1,793 are active, 869 discharges and 47 deaths.
