In a worrying development, at least 23 people at Delhi Government-run Asha Kiran shelter home for the mentally challenged have tested positive for COVID-19 between 5-20 June, including children and adult inmates apart from the staffers, reports Hindustan Times.

Of those who have tested positive for the viral disease, eight are children in the age bracket of 11-13 years, seven are adult inmates, while others are staffers which includes caregivers and also a doctor who is deputed at the shelter home.

The administration from Delhi Government is said to be testing 30-40 samples from the shelter home every day.

It should further be noted that the shelter home which is situated in Delhi's Rohini area has a capacity for 550 inmates, but has been housing close to twice that figure, ie, 960 inmates.
