Agriculture Minister Narendra Singh Tomar apprised the parliament on Friday (21 June) that so far as many as 3.3 crore farmers had received the first instalment of Rs 2,000 under the Union government's flagship Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi (PM Kisan) scheme, reports Hindu BusinessLine.
Tomar also added that the number of beneficiaries to have already received the second tranche of Rs 2,000 stand at 2.86 crore with a lion's share of beneficiaries for both the instalments hailing from the state of Uttar Pradesh.
In Uttar Pradesh, 1.12 crore beneficiary farmers have received the first instalment, while 1.08 crore have received the second instalment so far. Second to the state stands Andhra Pradesh where 34.43 lakh farmers received the first instalment while 31.27 lakh farmers received second instalment.
It should be noted that on the very first day after taking oath as the Prime Minister (PM) for a second term, PM Narendra Modi's cabinet had decided to remove the landholding limit of 2.5 hectares for availing PM Kisan benefits. The scheme has been extended to all farmers in the country.
