After denying consular access to India for 22 times in a row, Pakistan on Monday (25 December) agreed to grant New Delhi the right to meet Kulbhushan Jadhav, Pakistan’s Geo News has reported.

According to the Geo News report, the development has been confirmed by Pakistan’s Foreign Minister Khawaja Muhammad Asif.

Asif reportedly described the move as a "concession".

"Had India been in place of us, it would not have given us this concession,” he said.

Pakistan’s move comes on the day as Jadhav’s wife and mother of are travelling to Islamabad to meet him.

Jadhav, reportedly kidnapped by Pakistan’s Inter-Services Intelligence from Iran, has been accused of espionage in Balochistan. He was awarded a death sentence by a Pakistani military court and was reportedly denied a fair trial.

This is a developing story. More details awaited.
