In an embarrassment for Pakistan and its Prime Minister (PM) Imran Khan, the nation has failed to prove its claim in the United Nations Human Rights Council (UNHRC) that as many as 58 nations had supported it on the Kashmir issue against India, reports The Economic Times.

As per the rules of the UNHRC, Pakistan had to garner the signatures of representatives from 58 nations to support its claim which it has failed to submit. The false claim had been made by Pakistan's Foreign Minister, Shah Mehmood Qureshi on 10 September in Geneva and had been seconded by PM Khan himself.

Meanwhile, this comes as a major shot in the arm for Union Government and the diplomats fielded by India who reached out to council members from as many as 45 nations and apprised them of the rationale behind India's decision to abrogate Article 370 of the Constitution.
