Pakistan’s Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi has been seen thanking China for preventing United Nations Security Council (UNSC) sanctions against Jaish-e-Mohammed chief Masood Azhar.
As per a video released by journalist Aditya Raj Kaul, Qureshi has been heard thanking ‘invaluable friend’ China for preventing sanctions against the dreaded terrorist.
Qureshi heaped praise on China for its support for Pakistan on international forums while indirectly referring to the Chinese veto.
China had recently put the UNSC sanctions on a technical hold while seeking time to “review documents”.
This though did not stop the French government from freezing Masood Azhar’s assets.
As per a joint statement by France’s Foreign Ministry, Interior Ministry and Finance Ministry, the government would also try to add Masood Azhar on European Union’s (EU) terror list.
Global pressure has been mounting on Pakistan to act against Masood Azhar, Jaish-e-Mohammed and other terror group for perpetrating the Pulwama terror attack. So far it has found a safety net in form of its “all weather friend” China.
