On the occasion of 73rd Independence Day, Prime Minister (PM) Modi is addressing the nation from the Red Fort, reports Indian Express. This will be his sixth Independence Day speech, and first after winning the Lok Sabha elections 2019.
Dressed in a white kurta-pyjama and a colourful turban, PM Modi was received by Defence Minister Rajnath Singh at Red Fort. He inspected Guard of Honour and unfurled tricolour. Before coming to Red Fort, he paid homage to Mahatma Gandhi at Rajghat.
PM Modi took to twitter in the morning, saying,"Happy Independence Day to all my fellow Indians. Jai Hind!"
In the wake of the decision to revoke Article 370, multi-layered security arrangements are in place across the national capital. Security has also been enhanced in the Jammu and Kashmir capital Srinagar, where the governor Satya Pal Malik will hoist the tricolour at Sher-i-Kashmir stadium.
In his speech, the prime minister congratulated all and wished them a very happy Rakshabandhan, the festival that coincides with Independence Day this year. “May this festival of love fulfils all our aspirations," he said.
