In a big boost for the domestic defence manufacturing sector and the capabilities of the Indian Army, Prime Minister (PM) Narendra Modi will be dedicating to the nation tomorrow (14 February) the latest version of Arjun Mark1A battle tank which has been developed indigenously by Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO), reports Economic Times.

PM Modi will be dedicating the first unit of the latest version of the Arjun tank at the Avadi-based tank production unit of the Ordnance Factory Board (OFB)'s Heavy Vehicles Factory in Chennai.

The 118 tanks would form two regiments in the Armoured Corps and add to the first batch of 124 Arjun tanks which have already been inducted into the Indian Army and are deployed on the western deserts along the Pakistan front.

The tank has been designed by DRDO's Combat Vehicles Research and Development Establishment (CVDRE).
