Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) has claimed to have collected Rs 2,159 crore from property taxes in the current financial year, Deccan Herald has reported.
The civic body has set a target to collect close to Rs 3,000 crore for the current financial year. Until today, 11.40 lakh property owners have paid the taxes. The collections are Rs 200 crore more this year compared to the same month last year.
BBMP Commissioner N Manjunath Prasad has directed revenue officials to issue notices and seize properties of those citizens who have not paid their taxes. A ruling party member has proposed recognition for officials who have collected 100 per cent revenue in their respective wards.
The city corporation is also set to earn more revenue from 89 top defaulters who owe close to Rs 223 crore. In the previous financial year, BBMP collected property taxes totalling Rs 1,655 crore against a target of Rs 2,600 crore.
The civic body is also likely to get Rs 1,100 crore from the state’s finance commission. Funds made available to the city will be utilised for providing public amenities like streetlights, drinking water, roads and parks.
