Vidarbha Cricket Association (VCA) defeated Saurashtra Cricket Association (SCA) by 78 runs to regain the Ranji Trophy in the finals at the Vidarbha Cricket Association Stadium in Nagpur on Thursday (7 January), Tribune India reports.
The team from eastern Maharastra set a target of 206 in the 85th Ranji trophy finals and sent Saurashtra packing for 127 runs in 58.4 overs. 29-year-old localite Aditya Sarwate was named the man of the match for the domestic tournaments showdown after picking up five wickets in the first innings and another six in the second.
Saurashtra’s star batsman Cheteshwar Pujara had a disappointing final after his stellar role in India’s series win down under in Australia as he was sent packing cheaply in both the innings.
The win means a second consecutive title for Vidarbha in the marquee first-class tournament. In 2017-18 Ranji finals, Vidarbha had defeated Delhi by nine wickets to win their maiden title.
Final scores: Vidarbha- 312 (120.2 overs) and 200 (92.5 overs) beat Saurashtra- 307 (117 overs) and 127 (92.5 overs).
