Reliance Industries Limited (RIL) has installed the required equipment and set up processes at its Jamnagar oil refinery in Gujarat to produce over 700 tonnes a day of medical-grade oxygen which is being supplied free of cost to states badly affected by Covid-19.
Initially, Jamnagar refinery produced 100 tonnes of medical-grade oxygen, which is now increased to over 700 tonnes and the company has plans to raise the production capacity to 1,000 tonnes.
The produced medical grade oxygen is being supplied to states like Gujarat, Maharashtra and Madhya Pradesh providing relief to over 70,000 critically ill patients everyday, reports The Economic Times.
It is noteworthy that the entire supply of oxygen, including transportation in special tankers at minus 183 degrees Celsius is made at no cost to the state governments.
During last year’s lockdown, the company provided over 5.5 lakh litres of free fuel, supporting over 14,000 ambulances across 249 districts in 18 states.
RIL also donated Rs 556 crore to various relief funds including PM Cares.
