Rise In Online Hiring Answers Rahul Gandhi’s Question On Jobs
After Union Minister Nitin Gadkari questioned the intent of Maratha community in Maharashtra who are protesting for reservations by asking them where the jobs that they were protesting for were, Congress president Rahul Gandhi attacked the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) by terming Gadkari an honest minister and asked “Where are the jobs” on Twitter.
However, while the Congress and its members are busy trending hashtags on social media, Gandhi certainly isn’t the one having the last laugh.
According to a PTI report, online hiring in July this year saw a 9 per cent increase. The data was obtained using online job portal Naukri.com’s JobSpeak Index.
Hiring activity for July 2018 stood at 2,101, up from July 2017’s 1,928. Growth rates for May and June for this year too showed an increase of 11 per cent and 9 per cent respectively.
Non-IT sectors like auto, auto ancillary, real estate, construction and BFSI continue to lead the growth. We can expect the job market to be cautiously optimistic and move further north in the months to come.Naukri.com Chief sales officer V Suresh
The insurance and banking and financial services sectors – with 34 per cent and 21 per cent growth – drove the growth in overall hiring. Other sectors including industrial products and heavy machinery, construction, real estate, oil and gas as well as business process outsourcing (BPO) and information technology enabled services (ITES) witnessed robust growth, recording growth rates between 6 per cent and 28 per cent.
Within metropolitan areas, the National Capital Region (NCR) of Delhi and its surrounding cities registered hiring growth of 14 per cent while Chennai saw 13 per cent. Mumbai meanwhile saw a 4 per cent growth in hiring.
