Roma: For The First Time Netflix Releases A Movie In Select Theatres, Keeps Box-Office Collection Data Secret

Since the release of Roma, Netflix Inc. has established itself in the movie business as it has earned the status of an Oscar contender. Directed by Alfonso Cuaron, the movie is a drama about a family from Mexico City.

The movie hit select screens about a week ago, breaking the barriers of the online streaming service, which chose to release it in theatres before releasing it online.

Comscore Inc., a company that monitors the data from box-office was quoted by Mint as saying, “Netflix has made the decision to not participate in the sharing of their theatrical box-office data. Comscore will, of course, abide by their wishes.

Despite the secrecy around, the estimated collection of the movie is speculated to be about $200,000.

The film sold out many shows in New York, online booking site Atom Tickets have informed. In the past, Cuaron had won the Oscar for Gravity.

The movie will be released on Netflix come 14 December. The director and the team of the movie is said to be impressed with the distribution strategy thought out by the video streaming giant.
