As fans geared up for the much-awaited Marvel’s Luke Cage, Netflix has announced that the programme has been cancelled after its completion of two seasons. Not too long ago, Netflix also cancelled out on Iron Fist, another Marvel show.
In a joint statement, Netflix and Marvel television stated that, “Unfortunately, ‘Marvel’s Luke Cage’ will not return for a third season. Everyone at Marvel Television and Netflix is grateful to the dedicated show-runner, writers, cast and crew who brought Harlem’s Hero to life for the past two seasons, and to all the fans who have supported the series.”
The Weekend Australian has reported that this might be due to Disney’s upcoming launch of streaming services, just like Netflix or Amazon Prime. Among other series like Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Iron Fist and Defenders, Luke Cage was a part of the interconnected shows which was signed as a deal between the two companies, Marvel and Netflix.
Hinting at allowing Marvels’ deals to expire, Disney has established that they will move the content to their own services in the near future.
