Section 144 of the Code of Criminal Procedure, which has been in place across much of Jammu & Kashmir for the past few days in light of the revocation of the state’s special status, will be lifted within the municipal limits of Jammu, reports Firstpost.
The provision makes unlawful the gathering of four or more people in public and is generally applied when the administration to prevent a deterioration of the law and order situation.
The announcement that it will be relaxed in Jammu was made by Deputy Magistrate (DM) of Jammu District, Sushma Chauhan. She also stated that schools and colleges in Jammu, which were shut for the last few days, will now reopen.
Restrictions remain imposed in the Kashmir Valley, where phone lines, broadband and mobile services are also suspended. However, a relaxation was made for several hours today for people to gather for Friday congregational prayers in mosques. Not major protest or incident has come to light after the same.
