Shared Efforts In Sustainable Development: Norwegian PM Inaugurates Green Compound At Its New Delhi Embassy

The Prime Minister of Norway Erna Solberg, who is on a two-day official visit to India, inaugurated a new green compound at the Royal Norwegian Embassy in Delhi, Economic Times has reported.

According to the report, the Norwegian embassy has secured a Green Rating for Integrated Habitat by the Indian government. The building is adapted to the local climate and takes into account the environmental concerns of India.

The building is designed keeping in view sustainability and the construction materials used in it have been sourced locally. Main goals of the architecture of the structure are water conservation and energy efficiency. Rain water harvesting is a part of the building and geothermal walls have been built to circulate cool air in it.

Solar panels have been installed in the building that produce 200 kWh energy a day. Trees that are more than 60 years old have been moved, allowing conservation of as much greenery as possible.

“The inauguration today marks the beginning of a new era of cooperation between our two countries. As a green embassy, I hope it can serve as an inspiration for our shared efforts to achieve the green transition and the Sustainable Development Goals. I look forward to seeing our partnership bear more fruits, in business, politics and development.” Norwegian Prime Minister Erna Solberg was quoted in the report as saying.
