On Wednesday (31 October), a legal notice was sent by the Congress Member of Parliament (MP) Shashi Tharoor to Union Minister for Law and Justice Ravi Shankar Prasad for allegedly calling him murder accused, Deccan Chronicle has reported.

Tharoor’s lawyer sent the notice over the video posted on 28 October by Prasad on his official twitter handle. In the video, Prasad had said, “Shashi Tharoor who is charge-sheeted in a murder case has attempted to disrespect Lord Shiva." Prasad made the statement in a press conference on the issue of Tharoor’s controversial comments on Shiva Linga and Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

In the notice, Tharoor had asked for an unconditional and written apology from Prasad within 48 hours of receiving the notice. The notice claimed that the statements made in the video were malicious and highly defamatory. The notice also clarified that the comment made by Tharoor against Prime Minister Modi was based on an old news article published in a magazine in 2012.

"The article was authored by journalist Vinod Jose with the title, 'The Emperor Uncrowned' and it ended by quoting an unnamed source in the RSS who expressed its frustration with their inability to curb Modi," Tharoor said in the notice. The notice also said that the statement made by Tharoor did not disrespect the deity in any manner.
